Common Drainage Pathway From Bilateral Frontal Sinuses: Lessons From 2 Cases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Primary pneumatization of the frontal bone occurs in first year life, but further continues until 18 years age. Elongation ethmoidal infundibulum and recess, or upwards migration anterior cells has been proposed as a mechanism sinus development. The drainage pathway is displaced posterior direction depending on pattern frontoethmoidal cells. Also, sinuses can be connected to directly middle meatus superior attachment uncinate process. Bilateral are separated by their bony septum, thus have own pathways. Contrary this general rule, we experienced two cases that were each other, showing single from both sinuses. We report these along with literature review. Key words: Anatomic variation ㆍ Drainage Frontal sinusitis Multidetector computed tomography

Unilateral transnasal endoscopic approach to frontal sinuses: Draf IIc

For chronic sinusitis surgery, the Draf III approach provides a common median drainage pathway for bilateral frontal sinuses from orbit to orbit. The Draf IIb provides unilateral drainage from orbit to septum. In several cases, inclusion of the nasal and frontal sinus septum in a Draf IIb was advantageous without extension to the opposite frontal recess. The proposed nomenclature is Draf IIc. T...

The frontal sinus drainage pathway and related structures.

The purpose of this pictorial essay is to provide a visual guide to the frontal sinus drainage pathway (FSDP), associated anatomic structures, and normal variations in sinus anatomy (Figs 1–9). Suggested readings provide more detailed descriptions of paranasal sinus anatomy and terminology for further study (1–9). Sinus nomenclature may be both redundant and confusing (10, 11). Originally, the ...
